There’s a pervasive belief in the professional world that says that work has to be hard and if there's any chance of reaching the top and finding any form of success, one would have to put in long hours, make personal sacrifices and keep “grinding” until you get there.

Theoretically, once you’ve done these things success at work will eventually come. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for two reasons primarily. Firstoff, doing those things won’t guarantee that you'll get the level of success that you're looking for and secondly if you don't have the time and the energy to enjoy the things you've worked so hard for, you haven't experienced true success.

By definition, “grinding” involves a great deal of friction, tension and force and can expend a vast amount of energy. Not having energy actually robs us from enjoying the wonderful parts of life and takes us out of flow where we're able to focus on the task at hand. When we operate from a state of flow, a lot of times, things come to us a lot more easily and it allows us to work in our zone of genius and it just is it feels better.

“I actually think that if you really value yourself and you believe that it's possible to kind of be in flow, and have happiness and success, that you're actually going to be more successful.”
