In the openings bars of the classic 90's hip hop song “Express Yourself” by NWA, Dr. Dre starts off by saying,

“I'm expressing with my full capabilities and now I'm living in correctional facilities. Cause some don't agree with how I do this, I get straight, meditate like a Buddhist”

The song itself focuses on the concept of free expression and the constraints that were placed on rappers by radio censorship.

Each and every single one of us has the right to be who we are and we also have the right to express ourselves in any manner we see fit.

The need for self-expression is an important part of our lives and when we don’t express ourselves, we repress important parts of who we are and can potentially cause ourselves considerable struggle and lasting mental and emotional pain.

We all have our own individual hopes, wishes, dreams and aspirations and if its our desire to go after those, its completely our prerogative to do so.

“So for me, I would I would like to say it starts with having a good relationship with yourself. And so this is where I really when I realized that I had to really take a step back and have a look at my life and have a look at how I wanted my life to be on a daily basis.”
