Episode #135: Brain Hemmorrhage Survivor! Featuring Kaj Smit
“Prior to the brain hemorrhages, I was studying for my high school exams to get into university. I worked out four to six times a week, ate healthy didn't drink or smoke didn't use drugs. Right. At 18 I lived a perfectly healthy lifestyle and still I got two brain images, which baffles every doctor.”

Having a positive mental attitude is one of the best ways you can help yourself and your life improve drastically. Looking at the positive sude of things is a particularly important skill to master especially since we know that our pathway isn't always going to be filled with sunshine and roses, looking at the brighter side of the journey keeps us feeling happy and healthy.
It helps strengthen and equip us to tackle whatever life throws our way.
“I knew I had to give 120% for every therapy session in order to get back. So that's what I did. I went with a smile towards everything. During therapy, I was laughing and cracking jokes even though I couldn't move anything. Therapists who came to my bed couldn't understand why I was so positive when I couldn't move anything or barely speak.”
Two months after his 18th birthday, on May 12th, 2021, Kaj Smit suffered a brain hemorrage. He was rushed to hospital where his parents were told that he would have a 5% chance to survive the night, and if he did, he’d have a 95% chance to be in a vegetive state for the remainder of his life.
One year later Kaj is walking again, driving a car and is able to ride his bicycle and doing all the things the doctors said he would never be able to do again.
Kaj has now made it his mission to inspire people with his story and the lessons learned, to help them to overcome their fear and insecurity in the face of adverse situations.
He joins Audley on The Audacious Living Podcast to reflect on the journey he took to get back onto the road to recovery, how he was able to maintain a positive attitude during the most challenging times and how he's using his experiences to help others.
