Episode #134: Mastering the Art of Public Speaking Featuring Brenden Kumarasamy
“A lot of us when we think of communication, we associate to a chore negativity, stress, anxiety, versus realizing that communication is so much more than giving a presentation at work. It's the way we talk to our families. It's the way we meet strangers when we travel, it's the way you order food at a restaurant, make the waiter feel that, wow, this person is really nice to me. That's the point. It's about leading a fulfilling life.”

Being able to communicate effectively is perhaps the most important of all life skills. Possessing strong communication skills can aid us in both our professional to personal lives as it enhances our ability to connect with others whereas in contrast, poor communication skills can lead to frequent misunderstandings and frustration due to lack of connection.
When you take a look at the greatest leaders, one of the traits they possess, is the ability to communicate effectively, which underscores the importance of communication skills.
As with most things in life, the only way you’ll ever get good at anything is with practice. This means that we may not being very good from the onset, being clumsy at it initially, making mistakes, course-correcting, and trying again. It’s going to be uncomfortable but absolutely essential on the pathway to becoming a better communicator.
“It's a lot easier to go from one to 100 than zero to one so we need to push ourselves to go from zero to one. The key is, is when we push ourselves to that one, that makes going from one to 100 a lot easier.”
As an experienced speaker and facilitator, Brenden understands that audience members need to walk away captivated, and above all, inspired to master the art of communication. It should be seen as something to look forward to rather than a burden that must be overcome.
Brenden joins Audley on The Audacious Living Podcast to discuss how we can get better at communicating by changing our approach towards it, steps we can take to build our confidence and hoq we can face our fear of public speaking head on.
