Being blatantly underestimated is unfortunately a part of life for many people living with disabilities. It’s super easy for someone to glean one small fact about another person and immediately doubt their ability to make any significant accomplishment to society or even contribute at the same level as others. Each and every single one of us are uniquely valuable and talented in our own special way and people living with disabilities should be celebrated because of this as opposed to made to feel that they’re less than what they actually are or unable to measure up to others.

While on the surface, being underestimated may appear to offer very little value, it can do more than we actually realize.

Being underestimated provides the freedom to find your own way and forge your path freely and unassuming without the criticism and naysayers. It essentially lets you take risks others won’t take, you can try things no one is willing to try.

When other people doubt you, it provides crystal clear vision. You know what’s really important and you can go for it. You’re not worried about what people say about you. You’re worried about your end goal and no one thinks you’ll reach it.

Lastly, being underestimated allows you the opportunity to recognize your true worth and that's what we can rely upon to prove others wrong.

“So I'm going to use myself as an example, like I always like to say, about me on my profile is that I'm slightly autistic, meaning that I still fall in the spectrum, but just barely. Its like maybe if three steps over what however you want to picture it.”

Jimmy Clare is a motivational speaker, Autism Advocate, author, and founder of CrazyFitnessGuy. But before he started his career as a speaker it was a bumpy road when he was younger.

He was also bullied in school from elementary school all the way up to high school. He then stood up to all the bullies and got some of them expelled.

Jimmy went through nine ear surgeries, and three surgeries in one day. One for 6 wisdom teeth, 2 moles, and the last ear surgery that made number 9. He just keeps proving people wrong with his persistence time after time again.

Jimmy joins Audley on The Audacious Living Podcast to discuss his personal background and why he became an advocate for Autism, his experiences dealing with bullies and his response and what he’s doing to help others understand Autism better.
