Episode #47: Developing a Heart of Courage featuring Sandra Ford Walston

“We look at courage and fear as being the key thing. You got to have fear not, you know, Churchill said something to people about a lady said, you know, you gave you gave people courage and he said, No, I showed them their courage.”

If you're like most people, you probably equate courage with fearlessness but that's not an entirely accurate connection. Courage is not the absence of fear. Courageous people do feel fear, but they are able to manage and overcome their fear so that it does not stop them taking action. They often use the fear to ensure that they are not overly confident and that they take the appropriate actions.

Known as The Courage Expert, Sandra Walston is a global speaker and principal of a 25-year-old human potential consulting firm based in Denver, Colorado. Along with being a courage coach, she has over twenty-five years of original research in integrating courage behaviors, courageous leadership, women's courage and non-gender integral levels of courage consciousness, she focuses on the traps and tricks of the human condition such as denial, uncertainty and self-doubt.

“I'm here to say no, stop that courage and bravery are not synonymous terms.”

Sandra spent some time on The Audacious Living Podcast to help provide a better understanding of courageoness and its definition, the connection between our heart and courage and why we all should have a reservoir of courage and how it can help us.

When it comes to courage, it's never too late to start living a courageous life. In fact, courage is simply another trait that can be developed with intentional effort and practice. All it takes is the determination to recognize your fears and the willingness to choose to act in spite of them.
