An inevitable reality of life is that we’re all going to be faced with mountains or challenges that we’re going to need to climb and conquer. These challenges will not only be hard but they'll test us emotionally, psychologically and physically. To further complicate matters, we may also have to deal with the effects of a rapidly changing environment that will alter our visibility to the point where we can't see what’s ahead.

Despite these factors, it's both our job and a responsibility that we owe to ourselves to keep pushing upwards until we reach our goal.

Alison Levine is a leadership expert, polar explorer and mountaineer who is no stranger to extreme environments. She also has the distinction of being the team captain of the first ever American women’s expedition to climb Mt. Everest 2010 after an unsuccessful attempt eight years prior.

“We tend to think that when we have a goal, that progress needs to occur in one particular direction and its linear but sometimes you are going to have to go backwards for a bit in order to eventually get to where you want to be.”

Alison joins The Audacious Living Podcast to share learned life lessons on overcoming challenges and adversity from some of the world’s most extreme e1nvironments. She’s the author of On the Edge, an engaging leadership manual that provides concrete insights garnered from various extreme environments ranging from Mt. Everest to the South Pole.

Alison learned much from her first unsuccessful attempt to reach the peak of Mt. Everest and often its the setbacks that provide us learn more about who we are as individuals and our risk tolerance. The individuals who achieve their goals often times aren’t the most skilled people, they are the ones who continue to persevere and keep putting one foot in front of the other despite the circumstances.
