Episode #84: Stay Connected featuring Karen Hardwick

“We have to teach our children, people at work, our team, the community we worship with how do we connect. I think it's really important that we hit the pause button and realize people are looking for connection and purpose. So it's our job to help them find that.”

Karen Hardwick, Author of

“The Connected Leader”

When it comes to building and sustaining lasting relationships, one of the most important tools at a leaders disposal is connectedness. A leader who builds and maintains a connection to the people around them seeks ways to help others develop, both personally and professionally. Stuff like mentoring and coaching are worthwhile actions to pursue if boosting connectedness is the goal.

A leader who is unable to connect with and influence their team will have to work that much harder to demonstrate results whereas those who are natural connectors realize that if they can slightly increase the productivity of each person then the overall organization's productivity rises significantly greater than any one person.

The good news is, connecting is a skill, not an innate talent that you’re born with. As with most things, connection can be developed and learned with practice. Once implemented into regular ways of operating, connection can lead to improved communication, a more productive team, increased influence and a more audacious organization.

“I think there's a huge connection between connection and living this audacious life that you talk about because in order to step out, from what we know to jump off that cliff, so to speak. We have to be able to believe that there's something worth risking everything for on the other side and to have that confidence inside of ourselves and people cheering us on.”
