Episode #146: Building Positive Mental Fitness! Featuring Colin Thompson

Mental fitness is our ability to get through life's downs and maintaining a positive mindset rather than a negative one. You do that the exact way you build up your physical fitness, you start building mental fitness up over time, starting with small things you can manage and then build up over time.”

We all know the far reaching benefits that physical fitness can have on our bodies and in improving our overall health in our day-to-day lives. When we build up our bodies by developing muscles we become stronger, leaner and have more energy or endurance. The same holds true when we build up our minds and become mentally fit.

When we maintain our mental, we're maintaining an overall state of well-being while cultivating an awareness of the things we think, the feelings we have and how we choose to behave. In the same way we don’t get strong by exercising once. Our mental strength is the same. Improving our mental fitness requires time, practice, and consistency.

When we're mentally fit, the way we interact with the world is different. We choose how to be and how to respond, we recognize that not every thought that enters our mind is accurate, true or even good for us. Over time, all this adds up to a lot less stress and negative emotion and makes room for an audacious mentally fit life.

“You want to start trying to build up over time so that you're able to take life‘s highs and lows. You want to manage those and maintain a positive mindset. It's very, very hard to do but with practice, you absolutely can do that. Once you get there is a great power to have.”
